Andie's Best Dressed: Oscars

The biggest award show of the season was last night. I'm talking about the Oscars of course! Because I love fashion I tune in just to see the dresses on the red carpet. So I decided to put together some of my favorites from the night and share them with you!
Sometimes red on the red carpet is a little much for me but I loved all the red dresses that showed up last night. Some of my favorites were Dakota Johnson, Giuliana Rancic, and Rosamund Pike!

One of my favorites was Margot Robbie. First off she is gorgeous and could wear anything and still look good. Every since I saw her in Wolf Of Wall street I have been obsessed. I love this look because it's simple and elegant. The necklace adds beautiful detail and stands out with such a simple dress.

I loved Emma Stone's Elie Saab dress. Ellie Saab is one of my favorite dress designers. I love the detail and sparkle in these dresses. Emma never fails to amaze me.

Last but not least, Jamie Chung. I love this dress and how it's unique and full of detail.

Emma: Jan & Feb Faves

Lately, time has been flying. Days, weeks, even months, just seem to mesh together. That's why I've decided to combine my favorites of January and February to share with you! These past couple of months have been beyond busy and stressful for me, but these products have gotten me through the fast-pace!

1.J.Crew socks. How could these be ANY better? Don't get me wrong; I am definitely not a brand-whore when it comes to something as simple as socks, but J.Crew's are just unbeatable. I even find myself perusing their website and oohing and ahhing at how comfortable they look... Here are some of my faves: These & these

2.Ray-Ban's Classic Aviator. These sunglasses are my saving-grace when the sun is out! I keep them in my car so that I can be sure never to forget them... And I can assure you that they've saved me many times from the blinding sunlight blocking out oncoming traffic (yikes!). They aren't cheap, but are too classic to pass-up on. Plus, the price reflects the quality! (Reflects, get it?:)) I have these, and I'm in love with these!

3.White jeans. I cannot rave about these enough. They may perhaps be the holy-grail of my entire wardrobe. They're effortlessly clean and chic, and are an excellent substitute for standard denim. Plus, they go with absolutely everything. These are very similar to the ones that I have, and here are a few other options: Paige & J.Crew Factory

4.Oh Tiffany and Co., how I love thee. This bracelet is favorite piece of jewelry: the sweetness and simplicity create a beautiful and timeless bauble! Here is the exact one I have!

5.Post statement earrings. I received a pair from J.Crew for Christmas, and I can't get enough! They are such a great way to incorporate sparkle and fun in to any ensemble, and aren't too drastic. Click here to find a photo of the actual ones that I have! Because they are no longer sold, here are some other fun options: these & these! (I may just have to buy both of those... I'm loving them!)

6.Dark nail polish. I don't know about you, but I feel fierce when I have a dark manicure. And yes, I mean fierce. Dark nails, especially during the winter, are a perfect complement to any outfit and provide some unexpected drama. Essie's "wicked" and "devil's advocate" are to die for! (See all of essie's colors here)

7.J.Crew's MacAlister Wedge. My absolute favorites. Of all time. These shoes are such a classic staple for me, and I honestly can't imagine what I'd do without them. (Really. I'm not exaggerating.) I have them in the color nut, but I'm looking to snag a pair in a darker shade as well! Here are the exact ones I have, and here & here are some similar pairs!

8. Leopard-printed loafers. These shoes are a very close second when it comes to my all-time faves. They are so fun and so versatile, making them the perfect addition to anybody's wardrobe. Mine are from Target, but these & these are some cute look-alikes!

I hope you've enjoyed my January and February Favorites, and look forward to March's! I'm anticipating some warmer weather...

XOXO

Emma: OOTD 2/18/15

OOTD: February 18, 2015

As I am most days (everyday, actually), I was in the mood to dress comfortably today. Comfortable, to most, means leggings, sweatpants, etc. To me however, to be comfortable is to be perfectly content with what I'm wearing. Today was just that.

I combined nearly ALL of my favorite staples from my closet to create this outfit. Two of those staples being a striped J.Crew linen tee, and a Rebecca Taylor comfy cardigan.

J.Crew + stripes... How can you go wrong?
J.Crew's linen tees are simply the comfiest, most versatile tees I have ever owned. I can pair them with leggings, I can pair them with a skirt--and, of course, anything in-between. Today I opted for my navy and white striped, pairing it with a nude cardigan. Simplicity at its prettiest.

I have two cardinal rules when it comes to jewelry:
1. Less is more
2. Never mix metals

My first rule is pretty self-explanatory. Instead of overloading with ornaments, I prefer to keep things clean, limiting myself to a minimal amount of jewelry each day. My second rule is also fairly clear: I never mix metals when it comes to jewelry. In my opinion, silver and gold clash with each other, and each makes a separate statement.

As for my pants, I never miss a chance to pair my white jeans with anything. They provide a clean, neutral palette for just about any outfit.

J.Crew's MacAlister wedges seem to make it on my feet at least once every week... It seems I got lucky, as they are the same color as my cardigan! In this outfit, they create the perfect balance from head to toe.

A Special Valentine's Treat

If there's no baking involved, is it really even Valentine's Day?

Amidst all of the sugary treats that come in small packages, the best are those that aren't packaged at all. This Valentine's Day, we decided to try out a couple of popular Pinterest favorites. Being cake lovers, there were a couple that stole our hearts...

Treat #1: Peek-A-Boo Heart Cupcakes
Find the full recipe and instructions here!

Look at that batter! Cupcakes are the perfect Valentine treat to sink your teeth into. You can go with the Valentine's theme and add adorable decorations like we did. We tested out a recipe from LaurenConrad.com that was supposed to create a heart when you cut open these cute little cakes. Sadly, this epically failed (like most diy food creations that look too good to be true) but the cupcakes still turned out super cute and tasted great(most important part!).

To make the cute little hearts inside the cupcakes you need to separate the batter into two bowls. Dye one a cute color, our choice of course a pop of pink for V day. Once you have the batter dyed, pour a thin layer into a cake pan and bake for the recommended amount of time.

Once that is cooked and cooled, you'll want to get out a small heart shaped cutter. Put the cake on a flat surface and start cutting out the hearts. In the cupcake tin put batter at the bottom, place the heart in the middle and then cover it with more batter!

Bake to perfection.

Now it's time to decorate. We used buttercream frosting (it tastes amazing) and decorated them with pink and white sprinkles and little hearts to complete the Valentine's theme!

Treat #2: Red-Velvet Cake Parfaits
Adapted from this recipe

WARNING: This recipe is not for those who go weak at the sight of sugar. It's pretty much guarateed that you will eat the entire thing.

Red Velvet is practically a Valentine's Day staple. Not only is it downright delicious, it also supplies the correct color-scheme without any extra dye involved! This delectable dessert comes from Pinterest.

Basically, it's a piece of cake in a cup. Or, if you're feeling fancy (like we clearly were), a wineglass.

To make this treat, we used a Red Velvet box cake mix (shhh... don't tell Martha Stewart) and buttercream frosting. We also used some of the leftover pink cake to make the dessert look more fun.

Overall, this recipe was easy as pie. Errr... cake! We simply baked the red velvet cake, crumbled it, and put it into wineglasses along with the excess pink cake. We then piped in vanilla buttercream frosting, giving it even more sugar. (Can you tell yet that we are sugar-oholics?) We then devoured these tasty treats.

Making treats for a V day party? Simply make this recipe, replacing the wine glasses for smaller, see-through plastic cups. That way, your guests won't miss out on the deliciousness or the cuteness.

what a lovely sight.

Emma: Polished

If I had to describe my style in one word... I couldn't. Why?
I feel as if my style changes nearly every day. Although I typically gravitate towards neutral, simple pieces, I oftentimes find myself being vigorously pulled towards a loud statement. My style is much like my personality; calm and collected, with a pop of spunk.

In this ensemble, I highlight the simplistic side of my wardrobe. A light grey sweater and white jeans do just the trick--and my cheetah-print smoking slippers balance the look by adding a fun print and color.

I accessorized with my go-to sunnies and J.Crew's firefly earrings. Both are classic and glam.

I can honestly say that I feel most comfortable when I'm dressed in styles that reflect my personality... And today, I was right at home.

Classic

My style is evolving all the time. I love classic pieces that I can mix and match. Living in the midwest I get to experience all the seasons, which is something I find I take for granted. As much as I hate the cold the fashion is amazing during this time of the year! When I envision the winter time my mind goes to chunky sweaters, boots and a whole lot of hot chocolate( my personal fav).

I believe one staple everyone needs in their wardrobe are Hunter boots. They are great for cold and warm weather. When it snows here I throw them on with a great pair of jeans and I'm out the door. I don't have to worry about ruining my shoes and they keep my feet super cozy!

Chunky cozy sweaters are a must in the winter. I love this one because it adds a pop of color to any outfit. Wearing red in the winter makes me happy and is a perfect color for Valentine's Day. Ever since I've discovered the turtle neck I've been loving how they look and feel.

When I accessorize I like to keep things simple. I'll throw on a few bracelets, some earrings, and a simple necklace. One of my fashion pet peeves is when someone over accessorizes. Less is more when it comes to jewelry.
