Good Eats: Heirloom Bakery and Hearth

Good Eats [goo d  • eets] : A new series of posts dedicated to all things food.

Featuring: Heriloom Bakery & Hearth in Kansas City

Last weekend, my best friend Isabel came to stay with me and experience good old KC! From the moment we planned her visit, I knew I had to take her to my favorite food place: Heirloom Bakery & Hearth. Heirloom is a charming, rustic cafĂ© in KCMO. The atmosphere is homely, inviting, and  constantly smells of the delicious bread and pastries baking in the corner.

Isabel ordered the "Build Your Own Grilled Cheese" sandwich with goat cheese, mozzarella, bacon, and pesto. Judging solely from the single bite I took of it, I definitely recommend this creation. Each sandwich comes with kettle chips as well; Isabel picked BBQ.

Ahhhh. This photo brings back tasteful memories! I ordered the daily special of ham, sharp cheddar, arugula, and pesto on rye. This sandwich was great. I do, however, wish I could have added mozzarella⎯Heirloom's mozzarella is decadent. I subbed a side-salad for chips; this one has cinnamon apples, feta, and clementine on mixed greens.

You simply cannot pay a visit to Heirloom without choosing one (or two! or three...) of their delicious pastries. Isabel got the cranberry orange glazed scone. I'm not the biggest fan of scones, but this one was great.

Homemade poptarts are equivalent to pure bliss. Heirloom's are no exception. Around halloween, I had their seasonal pumpkin variety and fell in love with the first bite! This time, I went for the apple cinnamon, and it was just as amazing.

At the end of my meal, I ordered some hot chocolate. It wasn't anything special, but nonetheless was a yummy, warm treat on the cold day!

Emma: Winter Blacks and Whites

I cannot begin to express how sick I am of this weather. This Monday however, I refused to let it stop me from wearing what I wanted! (I will admit though, after having bare legs for a single day I decided to wear sweaters for the entire rest of the week).

I've kind of been on a skirt rampage lately, and I must say, I'm loving it. There's just something about wearing a skirt that makes me feel so put-together. I recently purchased this one from J.Crew Factory, my new go-to store for skirts... they have so many fun prints and styles! I love the geometric simplicity of the skirt, so I decided to pair it with only black and denim.

I have had these gorgeous boots for ages but haven't worn them in forever! They are so classic with a whimsical twist. I was so glad to have pulled them out of the depths of my closet.

Andie: Weekend Casual

Hello everyone! Today I am sharing my favorite casual weekend look mainly focused around my New Balance sneakers. I received this pair as a Christmas gift and I've been wearing them a lot lately.  If you're looking to purchase a pair I would recommend buying a neutral color like grey or black so they can be styled a lot of ways. I paired mine with a simple grey off the shoulder top and white cropped skinny jeans. To add some detail I layered two of my favorite delicate necklaces. The small beaded one is from Etsy and you can find it Here! My bag is a Tory Burch York Buckle Tote in the color French Grey. This has been my favorite bag for awhile now and would definitely recommend it!

Hope everyone has a great week!

Emma: Denim Jacket

Christmas is over, and I'm ready for the cold weather to be gone. Though I love curling up in a cozy sweater from time to time, I prefer wearing lighter, fresher outfits, much like this one.

I brought out my Tory Burch cheetah espadrilles that I haven't worn in who-knows-how-long and I love how they add a fun print to this otherwise simple outfit. My feet were freezing during this shoot, but beauty is pain, right?

I have been on the hunt for the perfect denim jacket and I finally found it! This one is from Anthropologie and is the ideal length, color, and fit for my style.

I wore a classic red nail to stand out against my pale top and pants. I also wore my Tiffany ring, a classic piece that has barely left my finger since I got it!

It's hard to tell from the photograph, but these lenses are tinted blue. I already have a somewhat similar pair, but I knew I had to have these!

Andie: Cozy January

I think I found my new favorite sweater to get me through the freezing winter. I purchased this cozy sweater at Nordstrom just in time for the unbearable low temperatures. I don't even have to wear a coat when I head out the door in the morning which I love! I've also been wearing my knee high black suede boots a lot lately. They have become a staple piece in my closet. They are easy to throw on with jeans and a sweater or dress up by pairing  with a dress or skirt. I've also recently gotten into wearing hats. They help me out a lot when I'm having a not so great hair day and looks super cute on. I got this one from my sister for Christmas and I'm excited to style it with different outfits throughout the winter season!
Hope you all have a lovely rest of the week!

Emma: First Snow Day

Apparently, all of this snow decided that it had to wait until after Christmas to show itself. Not that I'm bitter or anything... I guess you could say I'm feeling a little cold toward this weather... (insert courteous giggles at my stupid puns)

I'm honestly not the biggest fan of snow, but it's nice to have a sign that winter still exists in Kansas City!

Considering I was able to wear shorts the week of Christmas (not kidding), it was nice to break out some of my cold weather garb. This jacket was a steal at T.J. Maxx, and I wear it all the time. I'm glad I chose navy instead of black; it coordinates better with most of my outfits and looks great with dark jeans.

I'm just a littttttle bit obsessed with this bag. Okay, more than a little. A lot. I received this tote for Christmas and have used it every day since. It's one of the most classic pieces I have ever had, and I know that I'll have it for years and years to come. The monogram adds a sweet, personal touch—⎼I love carrying this beautiful bag!

I pulled out my Frye Melissa Button boots for today! They're such high-quality that I have no problem wearing them in the snow. Definitely worth the investment! (Also, did I just get lucky with how seamlessly they coordinate with the leather on my bag?)
